About

What Urban Passport is

Urban Passport is a city-exploration game made in Hamburg, Germany. Players study a city's places from home, then earn GPS-verified stamps by physically visiting them — within 18 to 75 metres of each spot, depending on the place. The first city is Hamburg, with 58+ verified curated spots across 11 categories, growing weekly.

How it works, in one paragraph

Every spot in Urban Passport is a collectible card with a question, a short story, and a look-for hint. You can study the cards from your sofa — but a stamp is only earned on location, verified by a GPS geofence, never just tapped. Studying a city is free; stamps and completed categories go into a persistent digital passport that stays with you across trips and devices. Urban Passport is built for solo explorers and for groups of every kind — school trips, company outings, stag and hen dos, language trips, hostel groups: group sessions run with a six-digit code, teams from 6 up to 100 participants, depending on group size (one phone per team is enough), and everything earned in a session lands in each player's personal passport.

For teachers and school classes

A city rally with Urban Passport fits a 90-minute outing or a half-day program, needs only smartphones — no guide, no printed material — and the teacher sees each team's progress live. Class sessions run on the German-language Klassenfahrt Hamburg page, live today for schools. Details for groups in English are on the Groups & Classes page.

Who makes it

Urban Passport is developed in Hamburg, Germany — the same city its first passport covers. Every spot is verified against public sources before it ships, and the street-art collection is walked and photographed on site.
